Groveland Beach Park Homes for Sale

Groveland is a small neighborhood on the west side of Mercer Island about halfway down nestled around Groveland Beach Park. This park began as a summer Bible camp in the 1920s and just a small handful of original homes still remain. Groveland Park was originally purchased by the city of Mercer Island in 1965 and is the islands only Westside public beach. It features a playground, volleyball courts, a dock perfect for fishing and sunbathing, and barbecue locations.

This smaller, secluded Mercer Island community is bounded by W. Mercer Way on the east, Lake Washington to the west, Southeast 59th to the south, and Southeast 56th to the north. Known as both Groveland and Groveland Park, most residents have easy access to the waterfront and the park and some waterfront homes feature private docks and boat slips.

Homes

Groveland is known as a waterfront community and the beach Park takes up most of the waterfront real estate. This small neighborhood is just about 50 homes and features larger estates, original historical homes, unique architecture, and even some modest cabins, reminiscent of the Bible camp era.

Homes were built in the 1920s all the way up to last year, in fact. Many of the homes built in the 1930s were used as lakefront weekend homes from people in Seattle and Bellevue. Today, only a few of those historical homes remain and those that are have been extensively rebuilt, remodeled and refurbished.

The small and narrow streets and Groveland have a country like feel with no curbs and no Lane dividers. There are multiple shade trees and established forests not only along the roads but in people’s backyards.

Homes in Groveland are priced between $900,000 and over $6 million and because there is such an eclectic blend of homes, no two properties are alike. You might have a beautiful view from one home, a secluded forested with another, or a waterfront property with its own beach and dock. The Island Crest Park is located just to the east of Groveland and it’s about 10 to 15 minutes to Interstate 90 as well as shops, restaurants, and markets on North Mercer Island.

Schools

Groveland is part of the Mercer Island school district and the homes in this neighborhood are served by the Island Park elementary school, the Islander middle school, and the Mercer Island high school.
