Mid-Island Island Real Estate
Mercer Island’s Mid-island section runs from about SE. 40th St., South to SE. 63rd St. It’s the narrowest part of the island and encompasses the North and South directions of Island Crest Way and W. Mercer Way. Most of the residential neighborhoods are laid out in a gridlike pattern and the Mercer Island school district has its largest school campus located in mid-Island and is home to the high school, the Northwood elementary school, and the administrative offices of the district. The Mercer Island’s library is also located mid-Island and is a very popular community gathering spot.
Although mid-island doesn’t have its own history per se, it is all part of the growing history that is Mercer Island in and of itself. With several parks, community centers, and of course, residential neighborhoods interspersed throughout, this section takes up the largest portion of the island.
Homes on Mercer Island’s mid-Island section range anywhere from a $900,000 to over $4 million with a lot of waterfront property on both the east and west side of the island. The east side of the island has several residential neighborhoods and sprawling wooded communities and nearly every waterfront home on both sides feature a dock and boat slip.
Southeast of the Island Park elementary school is smaller neighborhoods of Parkwood and Mercer Firs. Other communities include Pioneer Park, Parkwood, Eldorado, and Timberland. North of 50th St. include the neighborhoods of Madrona crest, Lucas Heights, all view Heights, and Ellis Pond.
Mid-Island has some of the most parks of any community on the island. The Island Crest Park and deans children for spark are the most popular in the community. Also known as Dragon Park, the Dean’s children’s Park features Dragon sculptures, play castles, and adventure playgrounds and during the summer, kids can even build treehouses and forts with boards, nails, hammers, and other equipment supplied by the city.
Island Crest Park features sports fields, a trail system, tennis courts, and playgrounds. Pioneer Park is one of the largest on the island and encompasses nearly 114 acres, over 6 miles of trails, and a beautiful natural state where residents and guests can enjoy the beauty and simplicity of Mercer Island. This is a runner’s paradise. Trails wind throughout the wooded park and it’s perfect to explore with kids or your four-legged friend. The park encompasses over 70 avian spaces including the Bald Eagle, Barred Owl, and Pileated woodpecker.
Homestead Field is another popular Park near the West Mercer Elementary school. It includes tennis courts, green space, and a playground. The Mercer Island Boys and Girls Club is also located mid-Island with the Mary Wayte pool featuring Lapin recreational swimming lessons.
Further south is several churches, residential communities, and parks but most of your modern conveniences, shops, and restaurants are located north of 40th St.
