Mercer Island Library Real Estate

The Library neighborhood of Mercer Island is surrounding the, you guessed it, Mercer Island library. Located pretty much in the center of the island just south of Rotary Park is the library district. It encompasses a small residential area between Island Crest Way on the west, 92nd Ave., Southeast on the east, southeast 47th on the south, and Southeast 42nd on the north. This quiet little library community is very typical of Mercer Island meaning that it’s quiet, convenient, and has many positive community features. The most popular, of course, is the Mercer Island library and Rotary Park, right next to each other.

The library is just a short walk from the high school, the Boys and Girls Club, and several neighborhood parks and churches. There are trails and pathways throughout the community and it is served by the island bus route.

The library was built in the early 1990s and is a site for many city and community meetings, venues, and business facilities. There’s art exhibits, musical performances, and, it’s really the hub for community experiences on Mercer Island. It underwent some renovations in 2014 to accommodate the ever-growing collection of publications. This $1.6 million renovation was designed to refresh the interior of the existing building and provide more space for books and publications.

Right next door to the library is the Rotary Park, established in 1970 as a project of the Mercer Island Rotary club. This park is also close to St. Monica’s church and this quaint little neighborhood park gather volunteers from the Rotary club and the high school to clean up surrounding neighborhoods and other parks. In 2013 alone, volunteers of the Rotary Park planted nearly 50 trees, laid gravel cover along the path, and installed new benches.

Library Schools

The Hollerbach open space and Ellis Pond Park are also located in the library district and just north is the Mercer Island high school, sports fields, and the St. Monica school. The St. Monica private school is a local Catholic school offering quality, Catholic school education to children from SeattleBellevue, Renton, Newcastle, and Mercer Island.
