Mercer Island is made up of several smaller neighborhoods, typically identified as the location on the island such as the north end, east and west Mercer, and the South end, however, there are several smaller neighborhoods in amongst all of these major four quadrants of the island. Mercerdale is one of those neighborhoods located on the north end of the island.

Mercerdale is a small neighborhood located just north of the Mercerdale Park and west of Island Crest Way and South of SE. 40th St. This grid like a neighborhood is close to many of the islands green spaces, the town center, and the island’s farmers market. The Mercer Dale Park is a 12-acre tract adjacent to the town center and includes a 2 1/2 acre lawn for community events throughout the year. This park is popular for annual events and festivities such as music in the park, concerts, the holiday tree lighting, and more.

Mercerdale is centrally located with easy access to Interstate 90Making it a popular residential community for commuters. It’s also extremely close to all of the amenities, shops, restaurants, and services just off of the interstate on SE. 27th St. including Starbucks, restaurants, a QFC, the New Seasons Market, and a lot of basic necessities and services. Most homes in Mercerdale are no more than five minutes to most of these conveniences. Most of the residential neighborhood sits between a green space bordering 76 Avenue and Island Crest Way.

Homes in Mercerdale

The homes in this neighborhood boast a mid-century/modern design as most were built in the late 1950s to 1970s. You’ll find an eclectic mix of ramblers, smaller homes, and some of the most affordable real estate on the island. This is a great entry level residential neighborhood with the median sales price of about $1.1 million. Most of the neighborhood is residential sitting just south of Mercerdale Park. Most homes boast a 30-65 Walkscore®, something many of the other residential communities don’t enjoy. The area is somewhat walkable to shops and restaurants and just a couple of minutes to other services, 10 minutes to Bellevue and less than 10 to Seattle.

Schools

Residents of Mercerdale are served by the Mercer Island school district and attend the West Mercer Elementary school, the Islander middle school, and the Mercer Island high school. These are between a half a mile and 3 miles from this community. Private schools are also available including St. Monica school, the Yellow Wood Academy, and the French-American School of Puget Sound.

All these schools receive high marks for academics and education as well as graduation rates and teacher involvement.
