Mercer Island schools have always boasted a strong academic reputation. There are approximately 4000 students with primary and secondary education throughout the island. Mercer Island high school has one the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association and the Washington Army National Guard 2015 to 2016 Scholastic Cup Champions.
There are four elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. Elementary schools include Lake Ridge Elementary, Island Park Elementary, West Mercer Elementary, and Northwood Elementary. There’s also the Islander middle school and the Mercer Island high school.
Students honored for work on Mercer Island High School’s radio station
Golden Microphone Awards were given to thirteen student staff of KMIH 889 The Bridge.
“Thirteen student staff of the Mercer Island High School radio station KMIH 889 The Bridge received honors at the 78th annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Golden Microphone Awards in New York City. The awards recognized excellence in both high school and college broadcasting.
Junior Emily Reyes was named the nation’s top high school radio air personality for her work hosting the popular “Everybody Loves Emily” show and also received a finalist award for Best Program Director.” (click the article to read more)
Mercer Island also has several private schools including the French-American School of Puget Sound, the Northwest Yeshiva high school, the St. Monica’s Parish school, and the Yellow Wood Academy. These are for multilingual, Catholic education and special needs. The Northwest Yeshiva high school is Washington state only Jewish high school.
There are also 18 preschools with full and part-time programs as well as religious, multilingual, Montessori, and special needs options.
