History

Just after World War II most of Woodridge Hill was an underdeveloped plot of land with lots of trees and undergrowth. Over the next few decades it was annexed by the city of Bellevue and developed with lots and parcels for building. The Woodridge Hill neighborhood is just south of downtown Bellevue and close to light industrial communities along Richards Road. Woodridge Hill features quiet streets, single-family homes, and several properties have use of Lake Washington in downtown Bellevue.

Norwood Village was built on Woodridge Hill in the late 1940s originally for World War II veterans. Development began in 1947 when a nonprofit veterans organization purchased nearly 50 acres and developed it into what was called lower Norwood. Builders position these homes on lots to take it manage of the views from this area. This was unique in that all these homes were slightly different rather than the postwar tract housing neighborhoods that were more common at this time. Several of the properties were so unique they were featured in home and garden magazines in the 1950s. Norwood Village is one of the oldest communities in the state and it’s a historic District of post-World War II architecture. [Source]
